“It only blocks Chrome. Discord, Steam, and games are still open.”
How to block apps, not just websites, on Windows
Blocking Windows apps requires process-level control. REACH checks the applications in your mode about every 1.5 seconds and terminates their processes while a focus session is active. The same mode can cover selected Discord, launcher, or game processes and domains in Chrome. REACH has no protected service or anti-bypass system. An administrator can reopen an app, and closing REACH stops the block. It is designed for everyday limits on your own computer, not for managing a locked-down device.
REACH blocks the Windows processes on your list during a focus session. Join the waitlist and we will email you when the free beta is available.

Block where the distraction happens
A browser rule cannot reach an installed application. The focus mode must identify the executable and act while the session stays active.
REACH checks Windows processes about every 1.5 seconds. When it finds one included in the active mode, it terminates the process instead of placing a dismissible screen over the app.
Why an extension cannot cover the desktop
StayFocusd, LeechBlock, and similar tools block pages inside a browser. They cannot close Discord, Steam, a game, or another executable.
Windows Focus assist also leaves applications open. Fewer notifications may help, but you can still open the app during a build, a difficult task, or a short wait.
What REACH does with an open app
Digital detox, Work, and Study packs prepare a mode with detected software and suggested sites. You can tailor the list before starting the session.
Periodic checks terminate a listed process again if it reopens. Because there is no protected Windows service, the device owner retains final control.
When to use another option
Use another option for parental control, enterprise management, or protection from an administrator who wants to disable the block. Website blocking also does not cover Firefox or Edge today.
REACH may suit you when an extension blocks YouTube but leaves a distracting desktop app open, and you want both limits in one mode.
What this answer does not cover
- There is no protected service or anti-bypass feature.
- Closing REACH stops process blocking.
- Additional website blocking works only in Chrome.
